    interesting
Strictly speaking, Information Technology (IT) has been influencing society for thousands of years. Smoke signals, the abacus, writing, paper, pens and the printing press were all once considered as the forefront of IT because those technologies were the latest and greatest in communication.

However, currently it is widely recognized that the front of information technology is based on digital communications. As with all historic IT developments, digital communication technology is actually innovative in terms of society, business, defence and also tradition.

But you may be wondering what is it about digital communications that makes if different from other previous technological advances? What is the role that this technology can play in modern society?

First of all, IT acts as a facilitator. It is a medium that allows large volumes of information to be stored, prepared or transferred at a lightning speed. This means that there is more information available to make judgements, preserve relationships, monitor markets or follow shifts.

The power of this belief should not be under-rated, it allows individuals to make decisions depending on masses of up to date data. The military, schools and large businesses have long understood the strength of this belief however it has only been in the last 10 years that mainstream society has embraced the strength of information for both social movements and small businesses.

Secondly, IT is an enabler. Only a select minority of specialised organizations on the planet can claim that IT is their business. Most companies and institutions use Information Technology to enable functions that drive their core company. This might include better communication amongst personnel, suppliers or clients, or it may consist of better asset management. Whatever the function, digital communication makes the storage, processing or transfer of info more effective than ever before. But it is essential to note that in essence it does not change core companies, ideals, ethics or movements. It just permits them to operate at a greater scale, and much more effectively.

Lastly, Information Technology assumes the part of the custodian. Because data and information is amassed upon just about any subject you care to think about, large stores of information are emerging prepared to service any new requests. And therein lies the security paradox that modern IT presents. You can argue that more available info makes our lives more effective, safer and also richer. Whilst another argument could be that the same information that provides these benefits is also our achilles heal because of the security implications of illegal infiltration.

There is little doubt that the role of IT is aimed at and constrained by the very technology which defines it. Today, that technology permits us to collect, manipulate and communicate large amounts of information. As a consequence, the part of information technology involves improving the efficiency, capability, speed or accuracy of any kind of elements that may benefit from the functions that modern IT systems provide.
