Answer to English Grammar Question 165

Is it correct to say 'they've two children' or should it be 'they have'

From member: Mary Gorden in USA

Answer

'they've' is simply a contraction of 'they have' and is as correct as 'they have children'.
However, it is more usual to use the contraction in spoken rather than written English.
